Re: Random moments from WHU games that have stuck in your head
The game was West Ham at home to Chelsea. I can't date it specifically. But Bobby Moore was in his prime and Peter Osgood was just breaking into the England side. I was under the West Stand near the front at pitch level.

Osgood was putting in a few, shall we say enthusiastic tackles and the crowd were giving him plenty. Chelsea was attacking the Southbank and Osgood received the ball wide out on the touchline just about level to where I was standing. He had his back to our goal. Moore had anticipated the move and was there as the ball arrived. He effortlessly went through the back Osgood ( you could in those days) won the ball and left Osgood in a heap and played a pass to set up our attack. The aggrieved Osgood jumped up aggressively but as he did Moore just patted him on the arse. Osgood realising it was Moore shrunk back and looked like a little naughty boy who had been chastised.

Can't remember the result. Nor can I remember Osgood putting himself about after that.

Mike Small had an aversion to moving. The ball either came to him or it didn’t, and when it did, he was either offside, or he wasn’t.

Re: Random moments from WHU games that have stuck in your head
Me and my brother started going home and away with the old man in 86/8 (when i was 5!), must have gone to 15/20 games that season and the following season. Vague memories of Leicester away (Alan Smith hat trick?!) and Coventry away where i couldn't see past the half way line because of fog.
Anyway, we moved down to Hastings in spring 88 and that led to me not going to another game until 92/93, Wolves at home, which happened to be the first home game after the death of Bobby Moore...... What an occasion that was, my most vivid memory being a couple of Wolves fans running onto the pitch before the game and me thinking "don't fucking spoil this", but they laid a couple of scarves on the number six shirt in the centre circle.
Other vivid memory of this game was seeing Mike Small being caught offside countless times for the first time in the flesh!

The game where Georgie Paris collapsed for no apparent reason, shortly followed by a clap of thunder. It was a sign I tell thee.

Funny to see Harry the dog getting a mention. He was a pal of my dad's and i have vivid memories of going to a couple of games with him as a six year old. Particularly getting pushed around south london in a shopping trolley by "Uncle Harry" after one game.

Further to the "one Whoopi Goldberg" chant against Sheff Wed in 98, i forgot to mention that I was sitting next to David Essex and his elderly mother. She was clearly a lovely old girl, if slightly confused by the whole occasion. I think even she was impressed by Hugo Porfirio's fine performance that day.

Those St Johns types on the corners, bad business, slowly drizzled phlegm on their hats with PEANUTS PEANUTS shells, not good but amusing as a pup, every game

Mad Dog on the bench - can't remember home/away/when but usual howlage from the ranks, Dog got the call and came out trap 4 at Wimbledon stylee, sprinted to the corner flag to much aplomb and promptly cocked his leg, paused and sprinted back - booked within two minutes once on

Mad? The bloke was certifiable

Away at the last game between us at the Den, we are behind the goal and the atmosphere is beyond febrile, the Dog is then identified with mates, in the seats to our right, the lunatic then got up and was conducting our 'songs' - fucking bloke was insane, that side was not segregated

Chippy Brady, last game for us against Wolves, scored an absolute worldy and ran and disappeared into the Run, a mutual embrace and suction moment

Bond scheme protests - well best to not start but there are some moments there ;)

Brilliant fred this, invoked so many memories that had been long since filed behind the years and Stella under the bridge - thanks OP

Has to be millwall away in November 1990 . Loads of us left from the fountain in mile end . As soon we arrived close to the ground. we saw some bloke building a wall . Needless to say when we walked past after the match the wall had been knocked down and the bricks used as missiles .

Arriving for a game against Norwich just as West Ham were kicking off. I remember thinking "great I haven't missed anything". I was relieved that we got to half time 0-0. As the player's trooped off the announcer said "and the half time score is Westl Ham 0 Norwich 1". Steve Bruce had scored in the first minute.

Thanks for a great memory there, Aalborg. Though the real memory is not actually WHU related. I was at the game and was one of those who had to go onto the pitch. After the match I travelled the 'wrong way' home to High Wycombe instead of Essex as I was going to stay the night at the place of this woman I'd met and fallen in love with. I shouldn't have been there as I was married to someone else at the time. This woman had heard about the overspill on the TV and had convinced herself I was hurt and was really worried about me. She was so relieved to see me and made such a fuss, I felt like a million dollars. What followed was one of the best nights of my life (Hers too she said). I realised I was in the wrong relationship that night and, though it took a while, that woman eventually became Lady Blagg. That's really cheered me up recalling that. Thanks Aalborg

Re: Random moments from WHU games that have stuck in your head
The 1981 season in Div 2, after we'd won the Cup, confidence was flowing, we were demolishing the opposition week in and week out and everyone knew we were coming back up, Teams started turning up at the Boleyn knowing they would lose and just hoping to keep the score down. I think we were playing someone like Cambridge or Shrewsbury - one of those teams happy to be in Div 2 - and Trevor Brooking picked up the ball about 10 yards outside the opposition goal, he started towards the penalty area but was closed down by about three of the opposing midfield/defence. So he turned towards the line looking for space, followed by what must have been about eight of their players. He looked like a dad on the beach keeping the ball from a load of six-year-olds. The crowd were laughing and cheering - it was a great moment. Sadly, he didn't turn and put in a pinpoint cross otherwise this would have been a better story but he eventually had to shuffle the ball back into WH's own half. I've never forgotten it though, the peals of laughter and the pride in watching a team at their peak gave me a goosebump moment. Just for a while, we were THAT good.

Always remember the response to Martin Allen as a HOWL rather than a WOOF

I agree re Keown. The ‘KEEE-OWN , he’s got a monkeys 🐵 head’ is probably the most satisfying chant in my time at games.
Surely there must be a current player whose name & bonce could bring a version back.

Harry Kane?

Re: Random moments from WHU games that have stuck in your head
Wigan night game memorable for a couple of reasons I took my boys to pay a visit to my grandads sister at Newham Memorial.
They had a good team with Chimbonda, and the 2 Powerhouses up top Ellington and Roberts and beat us 2-0.
I remember there was a particularly bad mood after the game and after queuing the gates got shut at the station, a big lad had a right go at the WPC, she just explained that it was for his own safety etc but the fella would not let it go and went into a rant at her..on and on, she couldn’t reason with him so I told him to shut up and behave himself as she was just doing her job. He was raging and I thought he was going to throw a right hander ..the young Police girl nodded her appreciation and when the gates opened I kept a bit of distance.

It was a late one boys for the boys and I got a call next morning that the old girl had passed away in the night

Not sure if it was the same QPR away game but the away end was rammed I think due to some iffy tickets.I was in the lower tier standing and very grateful not be under the stand as the people couldn't get out upstairs were pissing where they stood and it was raining down on the unfortunates underneath. The mounted plod were on the pitch to help crowd control as we'd spilled onto the pitch...when the players came back on they had mounds of horse shit to contend with..I think we lost 2-1 (1988 I think)

at home vs Chelsea, 07/03/2001. In the West Stand and some bloke in front of us spent the whole off the first half shouting ‘suck ‘em out, Paolo’. Literally every few minutes.

He didn’t return to his seat in the second half. We were 0-2 down by then, so suspect he didn’t bother coming back.

Not sure if it was the same match but I remember Keown getting the "He's got a monkey's head" chant. It sounded like every West Ham fan in the ground was singing it. Probably the loudest I ever heard any chant at our place. I still smile about it now.

I'm convinced that's why he doesn't like us. I remember him always getting loads of stick when he played against us for Arsenal.

Re: Random moments from WHU games that have stuck in your head
Similar to the OP. I remember we were playing Leicester at home and at that time Dennis Wise was playing for Leicester, I'm guessing about 2001/02. One of our players went down with a bad injury (I think it was Hutchison) and there was a big delay as a result. All the players are basically standing about waiting for our player to be stretchered off.

Wise starts getting abuse from the East Stand and then a few in the Centenary joined in. He turns round and does a "come on then" gesture to our fans. Cue absolute dogs abuse as Wise just stands there laughing.

Mugged us off a bit but it was quite funny. He went up a bit in my estimation after that.

I think this was the same match where Di Canio scored what looked like being his last WHU goal as he was heavily rumoured to be joining Man Utd. He booted the corner flag by the CL/DML in celebration and snapped it in half.
